the emergence of the sunrise tourist

getaways are for early mornings

Sunrise tourism seems to be on the rise. Selecting destinations and experiences based on early morning opportunities seems to be the in thing - if TikTok and Instagram are anything to go by. The amount of incredible opportunities to start the day the right way, both in your local area and when you are travelling, has increased massively.

It is often a way to make a trip feel more special than usual, and most of us don’t get up to see the sun ascend in our day-to-day lives - so it’s a fantastic excuse to set that alarm clock and make the most of the day ahead.

In this issue of ‘The Sunrise Chaser’ we’ll go over some of the best sunrise tourism experiences on earth in a bid to drive our wanderlust.

predicting tip

Here is where I’ll share an additional or new tip to help with your sunrise and sunset chasing.

For novice sunrise chasers who hate waking up early, when on holiday aim to book a room that faces east, with minimal obstructions in front, so you can peak out the curtains and check conditions before committing to watching

sky of the fortnight

Not one of mine, but this incredible experience of hot air ballooning in Türkiye’s Cappadocia is unforgettable and one of the world’s most popular. This creator captured the beauty of this experience at sunrise, which makes it even more majestic.

where to visit?

One of the more well-known sunrise tourism spots is Mũi Né in Vietnam, where each morning hoards of tourists flock to the white sand dunes to welcome in the day. You’ll be able to take a buggy ride over the dunes before and after daybreak. Below blogger ‘There She Goes Again’ talks through the top spots to visit during a trip to this laid-back spot, including a sunrise trip.

out the window

Whenever I travel somewhere I am often looking for places to stay that have a unique or mind-blowing view.

One hotel that I’ve got earmarked on my bucket list that you might want to as well is The View at Monument Valley in Arizona, USA. Looking out onto the famous rock formations they come to life as the sunrises and can be enjoyed from the comfort of your room, as showcased below.

Whether you need help in organising your sunrise trips better or want to keep a diary of what happened on the ones you went on - or both - then a journal is the perfect way to do this. In our digital world, sometimes analogue solutions are the best and this sun-themed journal (Le Soleil Journal) from The Quirky Cup Collective is perfect for that. Be sure to check out the full range and their amazing social presence here.

sunrise spot

Stonehenge Tours offers private inner-circle sunrise tours of the renowned structure in the UK. You’ll be able to get up close and personal with some of the world’s oldest rocks put together by humans.

sunset spot

Even though this is a sunrise edition, can’t leave out the sunset lovers. Take a dog sledge ride in the winter wonderland in Finland with the sun setting and the sky coming alive.

blame it on the moon

It’s moonrise day today. The 24th of February - so depending on when you’re reading this (and where in the world you are) you may want to nip out this evening for a beautiful moonrise. In some places it may be the 23rd, so check this website for the best time where you are. Also, you can get some magical views the evening before and after in some cases.

Are you a sunrise tourist? Have you ever heard that saying before? Perhaps not but you may already be planning trips based on sunrise locations. If you have any amazing recommendations drop me a DM on Instagram as I love to hear from you.

Happy sunrise chasing until next time
