how do you make beautiful places even more so?

visit them when the sky is alight

stunning places become more majestic

We all know that when we travel, whether it be internationally or even in our local town/city, visiting well-known buildings, monuments and the like is high on the agenda. From churches, mosques and temples to statues, bridges and buildings often some of the most famous spots in the world are man-made constructions.

Here at ‘The Sunrise Chaser’, we like to visit these spots, where possible, during sunrise or sunset to experience not just the beauty of what humans can achieve but to absorb the majesty of mother nature whilst we’re at it.

So this edition is dedicated to some of the most iconic spots on earth that look even better at the bookends of the day.

predicting tip

Here is where I’ll share an additional or new tip to help with your sunrise and sunset chasing.

If you’re visiting famous places be sure to check entry times or research accesible viewpoints before you go. Given the time of day you’ll be visiting, especially if sunrise, some places you may not actually be able to get to at that time.

Inspiration to improve your dedication

sky of the fortnight

As I’ve not seen any particularly iconic constructions at sunrise or sunset these past two weeks I’m handing over to creator Laila Szaranek. Google Translate tells me spent her 25th birthday at this iconic New York City, USA view. The Top of the Rock is known to have one of the better views in the famous city and the below will show you why.

where to visit?

To experience some of the most unique and gorgeous architecture you’ll ever see, or so I’m told, a trip to Beijing, China’s Forbidden City is high on the list. The internet points to this place also looking wonderful during sunset, just before it’s closed to visitors. To get into the mindset of what a trip to the country’s capital might look like, Postcards from Mimi takes you through what a trip there could entail.

out the window

Whenever I travel somewhere I am often looking for places to stay that have a unique or mind-blowing view.

When thinking about which place to recommend for this fortnight’s edition, a place I’d seen on TikTok came to mind immediately. Never before have I witnessed such a view, and whilst it is an Airbnb - we prefer hotels here for numerous reasons - I’m fine to break my rules for this incredible view of the Pyramids of Egypt. Hi Pyramids is located in Nazlet El-Semman within greater Cairo. I’ve not stayed here, but I’m sure you’ll agree it would be epic to.

I think I found the best Airbnb in Egypt 😭 #traveltiktok #airbnb #hotel #egypt #giza #pyramids

bucket list

Sunrise and sunset spots from around the world I’m desperate to visit. Drop me an email (reply to this) to share your favourites for the chance to be featured. This is also a great way for me to highlight other wonderful creators you may want to follow.

sunrise spot

Overlooking the beautiful city of Prague in Hungary, this sunrise spot includes views of the famous Hungarian Parliament Building as well as sweeping vistas of the capital.

sunset spot

Travel back in time to ancient Greece by experiencing the incredible Acropolis at sunset. With the world-famous Parthenon standing tall on top after all these years, a trip to Athens is incomplete without seeing this sight.

blame it on the moon

The next full moon will be on 24th February (or thereabouts, use this website to confirm exactly when in your location). For best moon viewing, you’ll need to look east (opposite of where the sun is setting) and have a clear (or as clear as can be) sky.

There are just too many epic man-made structures on the planet to cover in a small percentage of them, but I hope this has given you some inspo for your next visit somewhere. To get up early for sunrise or stick around for sunset.

Happy sky chasing until next time.
