are you up for chasing waterfalls?

water and fire combo for the best views

rushing towards sunset

Avid sky chasers know that some of the best spots of sunrise and sunset are by water. Whilst usually we talk about the ocean, a lake or even a swimming pool, I was inspired by a video I posted this week of my trip to Iceland last year where I watched a majestic sunset from behind a waterfall.

This fortnight The Sunrise Chaser will be all about waterfalls - specifically which ones are best to combine with your sky chasing.

Scouring the globe to bring you the best waterfalls for your viewing pleasure - let’s dig in….or maybe go with the flow…?

predicting tip

Here is where I’ll share an additional or new tip to help with your sunrise and sunset chasing.

You’ll see the best colours before the sun has risen and after the sun has set - so plan your timings accordingly

sky of the fortnight

It’s not the sky of the fortnight, but instead the ‘post’ of the fortnight. A flashback to the aforementioned midnight sun in Iceland - watching this sky show from behind the famous Seljalandsfoss. This was taken about 11.30 at night after the sun had set.

where to visit?

Sri Lanka is said to be the place on earth with the most density of waterfalls. A recorded 382 waterfalls scatter this wonderful island. I was lucky to visit back in 2019 and below you can read about what I got up to during my very short week there. One of the best places I’ve visited and would love to go back to.

out the window

Whenever I travel somewhere I am often looking for places to stay that have a unique or mind-blowing view.

We’re off to South America to take in the breathtaking Iguazu Falls from the Brazilian luxury retreat of Hotel Das Cataratus. As the sun goes down you can take in cocktails with views of water falling and the sun setting.

sky chaser kit bag

Items that can help you be a better sky chaser.

I hunted this bag down after seeing the presenters of a YouTube show called ‘Jet Lag: The Game’ all use them. Identifiable by the signature Llama logo I discovered Cotopaxi is named after a mountain in Ecuador with a mission to empower communities in Latin America through health care, education, and livelihood. They also have this cool feature where you can select ‘surprise me’ on certain items for a randomised colourway. Looks like the perfect backpack for combo sky and waterfall chasing.

bucket list

Sunrise and sunset spots from around the world I’m desperate to visit. Drop me an email (reply to this) to share your favourites for the chance to be featured. This is also a great way for me to highlight other wonderful creators you may want to follow.

sunrise spot

One of the most famous sights in the whole world, made even better with a sunrise view. This is Niagara Falls, Canada at daybreak during a wintery morning (I put Canada as I believe the section below is from the Canadian section).

@orientalworld_go

There will be no regret only when you see sunrise at Niagara Falls #niagarafalls #waterfall #canada #usa #travel #sunrise #fyp

sunset spot

The island of Madeira is off the coast of Morocco but is part of Portugal and is slowly becoming a hot spot for travellers. Even better this creator caught a beautiful sunset/waterfall combo there.

blame it on the moon

Not long now until the next full moon. Appearing in the sign of Libra it takes place on 25th March. This means that both the 24th and 25th should be good evenings to watch the moonrise. Use this website to confirm the best time to view it this month wherever you are.

Now time to dry off and plan your next waterfall trip - where is one you’ve visited? Let me know by responding to this email or DM me on Instagram as I love to hear from you.

Until next time, happy sky chasing
